Understanding and estimating the impacts of climate change on human development: India

Project 3b

Project staff: Robin Burgess

A qualitative economic analysis of the relationship between health and past climatic variations, this project aims to predict the potential health impacts of future climate change scenarios. It links daily temperature fluctuations with rural and urban mortality outcomes in Indian districts for the 1956-2001 period, and initial results suggest that the health impacts are seen predominantly in rural areas.
Why this should be so and the implications for adaptation strategies are obvious questions.
